Summit Wellness Community Event Highlights

Summit Wellness is proud to bring people together through music and wellness events that inspire connection, creativity, and reflection. Below are highlights from our some of our favorite events.

In 2024, our Wellness team introduced Music and Movement, a unique program blending live music, mindfulness, movement, and recreational music-making to foster relaxation, self-awareness, and community connection. Led by Wellness Coordinator Sarah Swirsky, participants explored gentle, yoga-inspired movements and mindfulness practices, accompanied by the calming live music of recovery coach and musician Marc Lee Shannon.

The program was successfully piloted at Community Support Services, a Summit County agency dedicated to supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. This innovative initiative brought the healing power of music and movement to the community, leaving a meaningful and lasting impact on participants.

On New Year’s Eve afternoon, 2024, Summit Wellness partnered with Summit Recovery Hub (SRH) to host a joyful and inspiring event at House 330.

Guests connected through art, music, and meaningful intention-setting while sharing a complimentary lunch courtesy of SRH.  Marc Lee Shannon shared heartfelt stories and reflections, Amber Keaton led engaging art activities, Chrissy Strong delivered a moving performance, and Berhane Okantah energized the group with a lively drum circle.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and helped create such a supportive space to reflect and recharge for 2025.

In October 2024, Summit Wellness had the honor of sponsoring a mesmerizing musical and dance performance inspired by the children's book The Remember Balloons.

This poignant, intergenerational story follows a grandfather and his grandson as they navigate the challenges of Alzheimer's. Local choreographer Dominic Moore-Dunson and composer Theron Brown, joined by talented dancers and live musicians from Northeast Ohio, brought this heartfelt narrative to life on stage. The production, celebrated by Broadway World for its "energetic blend of late 20th-century American modern dance and social dance," featured an original score that beautifully fused jazz, blues, Motown, and classical styles.

This unforgettable event not only captivated the audience but also demonstrated the profound impact of music, movement, and storytelling.

In April 2024, our Wellness Coordinator organized a special event for members featuring a live performance by Zach Freidhof, who shared his grief journey through music. Following the performance, participants engaged in a unique art therapy activity, where they cracked and glued pieces of flowerpots back together, symbolizing their personal journeys with grief.
